During my internship, I worked in Cybersecurity, Privacy and Risk (a specialization under Technology Consulting) and conducted an IT security and strategy assessment for a leading global luxury hotel chain. I was consistently rated at next level by my managers on the five dimensions which make up the career framework at PwC. Key tasks included:

  • Initiated development of information repository for firm about 3rd party security vendors, security capabilities of SaaS vendors (i.e. Office 365, FireEye).
  • Contributed key sections in final client presentation including developing security resourcing models, threat modeling vectors, and assembled and presented benchmarking data on industry peers from various contacts.

Details

Samsung Electronics is a leading electronics manufacturer. Samsung's supply chain team is consistently ranked as one of the best globally. I worked with their B2B Supply Chain team on a process improvement system to improve the team's forecast accuracy. The goal of my project was to create a prototype for a module that would be added to the proprietary Samsung supply chain system used globally. To complete the project, I gathered information to understand the problem, used my expertise to develop a solution, and communicated my findings to the management team. Key tasks included:

  • Learned Microsoft VBA and supply chain basics to implement tool which integrated pipeline opportunities from the sales team into supply chain forecasts, resulting in improved forecast accuracy.
  • Managed all project management aspects of project including: interviewing, obtaining feedback, and gaining support from key stakeholders across multiple teams in sales and marketing to incorporate the tool into their weekly workflows. As a result, I was able to incorporate feedback from many points of view into the final tool and satisfied the needs of all the users of the tool.
  • Automated supply chain report sent weekly to Samsung executives, resulting in a 66% decrease in man hours spent preparing report.
  • Presented project to Samsung executives, including the President of Samsung Electronics at conclusion of internship.

eBay Enterprise provides marketing services for top companies such as Toys R Us, Aeropostale, and Tumi. During my internship, I worked with the digital studio, which provides photography and video services for eBay Enterprise clients. My main project was to independently develop an online portal to enable their top clients to easily view the workflow status of items they had sent in to get photographed. Clients appreciated the increased transparency this system provided to them and improved client relationships. Key tasks included:

  • Learned PHP and MySQL to implement client portal.
  • Implemented user level privileges on portal using Wordpress CMS.
  • Consolidated business document formats and created centralized data repository for employees to facilitate sharing of these documents such as style guides.

Alphabuyer is a small business located in Philadelphia, PA, which started in the consumer energy space. Due to deregulation, consumers are now able to pick their energy supplier and Alphabuyer negotiated with these energy suppliers to provide their customers with the best deals. At the end of my senior year, I worked in all parts of the business including marketing and operations. Some of my key projects included:

  • Workflow Optimization: Streamlined data analysis and creation of savings reports for commercial and residential electricity accounts using Excel macros.
  • Public/Customer Relations: Drove initiatives to increase customer engagement and retention: Crafted company press releases, researched and wrote timely and relevant blog posts on energy topics, expanded website's knowledgebase content to align with common customer questions. Communicated with commercial accounts to obtain information and answer account questions.
  • Business Development: Led robotics team fundraiser, which raised $1,000 in 2 months, to promote community relations/outreach aspect of company. Led expansion of company's product line to include relevant affiliate marketing deals/promotions, which led to an increase in the company's revenue.   • Website Code Review: Conducted through review of website code, UI, and functionality. Documented bugs and suggested new features using JIRA. Documented technology hardware, software and common procedures in company's first training manual for new employees.

Matt Paul Sports is a small business located in Philadelphia, PA, which provides after school programs and summer camps for kids in the Philadelphia metro area. Starting in high school, I managed all the technology aspects required to start this business. I created the original website, and expanded it to enable online class registrations. I was also in charge of marketing the business online through email and created and managed the business's social media pages. Some of my key projects included:

  • Managed designers and developers in website redesign (including event registration plugin) and rebranding to ensure all specifications were met and project was completed on time.
  • Created and maintained CRM solution.
  • Implemented SEO across website to get site with no search engine presence to the top of results pages for top relevant search terms.
  • Used Google Analytics to provide founder with actionable insights and modify website content and UI to reduce bounce rates and increase conversions.

USFirst is an international organization with a mission to foster students to become leaders in science and technology. Through programs such as First Lego League (FLL), First Tech Challenge (FTC), and First Robotics Competition (FRC), students build technical and interpersonal skills through competitions that require participants to complete activities such as building a robot, and conducting and presenting research over the span of a few months.

  • FRC Team Captain: Increased team's visibility among FIRST community by leading implementation of team’s first scouting app, website, business plan, fundraiser and promo video. Won “Best Website” award, Chairman’s Award (FIRST’s most prestigious award), and co-wrote essay which led to our mentor being awarded the Woodie Flowers Award. Also led team to wins at 4 regional competitions, and ended up as a World Finalist at the Championship event. Led programming and electrical teams, and held one-on-one workshops to train new team members. Created lightbulb box design for other teams to use to demonstrate LED lightbulbs, which were offered by the FIRST organization as a fundraising tool.
  • FLL Coach, Steering Committee Members, Event Coordinator and Judge: Act as coach and mentor for my high school's FLL team - guided them through robot design and build, project research, and core value parts of the challenge. They won multiple robot programming and design awards, and reached the championship every year I was coach. Invited to steering committee in September 2012, where I organized FLL events with over 3,000 attendees in the Philadelphia area as event manager. I currently lead groups of 20-40 volunteers at FLL championship events. I was awarded the FLL Leadership Award in 2014 as a result of these efforts. I work with Philadelphia public school teams during mentoring sessions to coach them in all aspects of the competition including robot design, project and core values. I was a robot design judge for FLL competitions in the Philadelphia area during the 2015 season. Most recently in Feburary 2016, I was awarded the FLL Volunteer Award for my volunteer work.
  • FTC Mentor: As part of the Robomentors program organized by the GRASP Lab at UPenn, I met with the FTC team at Frankford High School in Philadelphia to mentor them in robot design and coding their robot.

Penn Science Across Ages (PSAA) is a student organization at the University of Pennsylvania dedicated to providing science education to students in Philadelphia public schools. These students would have little to no science education if our program was not in place. This organization is one of the largest at Penn with over 100 active members. I worked my way up from a volunteer to be a part of the board in just one year. Key accomplishments as President included:

  • Revamped recruiting strategy - resulted in record number of applicants and 2x as many active members recruited.
  • Successfully managed group’s transition to new school: built new relationships to reestablish our reputation, overhauled the curriculum to align closely with testing standards, reorganized material storage for improved access, and implemented new initiatives including robotics mentoring program to develop organization’s identity and enhance its visibility in community.
  • Implemented Excel spreadsheet to quickly assign students to classrooms, increasing efficiency by over 50%.
  • Developed automated reimbursement workflow, decreasing time spent on task by 75%
  • Started science teaching programs on time, which was the earliest this had occurred in several years.
  • Fostered partnerships with Penn organizations such as the GRASP Lab at Penn. Developed the Robomentors program in collaboration with the GRASP Lab, which will be greatly expanded in Fall 2015.
  • Led outreach initiatives, both within and outside the Penn community, which led to the highest publicity in the history of PSAA - media coverage in the student newspaper (The DP) and Penn News Today, the newsletter created by the UPenn Communications Office.
  • Fostered a much stronger community at the board and student participant levels of the organization. Started initiatives like board dinners, fellow lunches, fellow study breaks and one-on-one meetings with President to foster better communication. Institute interview process for all new applicants.
  • Led a migration from paper lesson plans to online lesson plans to greatly improve access to all members
  • Greatly improved organization of science supplies at our main elementary school. Created organization system to prevent missing supplies that are necessary to teach the lesson.
  • Changed structure of board to ensure smoother board transition. Also created repository of succession documents for each position to ease transition.
  • Created organization's first Constitution. This along with changes in the board structure allowed us to apply for new funding sources in the following semester, ensuring a sustainable fiscal structure for future years to come.
  • Led start of two robotics teams at local elementary schools.
  • Led 3rd grade class in science lessons every week, without teacher assistance.
  • Created custom lesson plans, worksheets and experiments to engage elementary school students and implement project-based learning approach to learning.
  • Maintained communication with teacher suggesting ways to incorporate science into regular curriculum.

Wharton Undergraduate Consulting Club (WUCC) is a student organization. A group of members in the club provides consulting services for various small businesses. As a project manager, I managed all communication with our client and among members of my team, developed the overall structure and vision of our deliverables, compiled the final deliverables for our client, and ensured these deliverables both exceeded the expectations of our client and also were completed on time. As a consultant, I conducted research from a variety of sources to analyze and present to the client in the form of a report or presentation.

  • Conducted competitor analysis and developed detailed marketing strategy for social media startup company.
  • Used information economic principles and research to develop strategies company could use to maximize app adoption
  • Researched oil and gas prices and contacted oil/gas industry analysts to create industry forecast. Wrote report which outlined implications of this forecast for drone company that provides aerial land surveys and mapping services for oil, coal, construction and gas companies.
  • Analyzed a variety of factors including market conditions, market sizing, accessibility, and startup costs, to develop a comprehensive 50 page expansion plan for drone company. These findings were presented to the company's board of directors and potential investors.
  • Designed and implemented startup's website. Designed startup's mobile application, and implemented multiple mobile layouts using HTML/Javascript.

The DP is an independently run student newspaper at Penn. As a design associate, I was responsible for coordinating with design editors to lay out the newspaper and create graphics for news stories 1-2 times per week. Adobe applications such as InDesign and Photoshop were used.
